Responsibilities: 

  • Provide primary care and services to the residents of the community under the medical direction and supervision of the residents’ attending physician(s), with an emphasis on assessment, illness prevention and health care management. Maintain regulatory compliance by meeting and exceeding the state requirements for a personal care home.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administration of medications to residents.
  • Accurately and safely prepare, administer and document the oral and/or topical medications that are used in this facility and that may be ordered for resident use buy the attending physician.
  • Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed.
  • Verify that any medication brought into the facility by newly admitted residents are examined and identified by the attending physician or pharmacist.
  • Be familiar with the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by the facility, pharmacists, and physicians.
  • Assist residents with functions of daily living.
  • Act as liaison with the residents, their families and support departments to adequately plan for the resident’s needs.
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, in-service training programs, etc., as directed
  • Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Promote a positive work environment. Encourage an attitude of professionalism amongst the staff of the building.

JOB REPORTING: Reports directly to the Director of Nursing
